2nd Annual Turkey for a Ticket Day, December 19th

December 9, 2008, Big Sky, Montana – Moonlight Basin will hold its second annual “Turkey for a Ticket” food drive to benefit the Gallatin Valley Food Bank on Friday, December 19, from 8 am – 4pm. All those who donate a turkey or 15 cans of food/non-perishable items will receive a free lift ticket for the day at Moonlight Basin. The food donation site will be at the Madison Base Area of Moonlight Basin.

“Requests for assistance from the Gallatin Valley Food Bank has spiked up by 44% in 2008 with October being the highest request for service in the history of the Food Bank,” said Greg Pack, General Manager of Moonlight Basin. “Last year’s event resulted in the donation of over 6,000 pounds of food. This year, with the assistance of you and the surrounding communities, we know that we will double our donation.”

October 2008 the emergency food box program touched the lives of 2,543 people for the most number of people served in any month during GVFB’s 26 year history. The current level of community need requires roughly 20,000 pounds more than was needed at this time last year.

Given this surge in need, the Food Bank is seeking help to get through both the holiday season and the winter months that follow, and we want to do our part to help meet our community’s needs. We are hoping to encourage all the skiers and boarders in the area to help make a difference for those in need this holiday season.”

Turkey for a Ticket activities will include a food drive at the Madison Village base area and drawing for a free midweek pass for all participants. Moonlight Basin also encourages everyone to “Share the Ride, Get More Goods.” On the day of the event, the first 25 groups of three + people in one car will receive a $10.00 gift certificate at the Headwaters Grille or Border Café. For those who are already Moonlight Basin season pass holders, they will receive a free lift ticket to give to a friend or family member, or 30% off one Moonlight Basin logo item at the Moonlight Mercantile. Everyone who donates will be eligible for a drawing for a free 2007/2008 mid-week season pass.
