Moonlight Basin Master Plan
Moonlight Basin Master Plan - Legend

At Moonlight Basin, we know that every available opportunity comes from the mountains surrounding us…so we look after and protect the land to ensure it continues to flourish. The connection we feel from spending time in nature instills us with a strong desire to participate and lend a helping hand.

After all, what we do up here inspires and fulfills us…and gives us our greatest pleasures. We discover and grow here. Exploring nature with our friends and family give us life defining stories to carry with us always.

History

The land where Moonlight Basin now sits, formerly owned by Plum Creek Lumber, is a 25,000 acre tract of land that had been used to supply lumber for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Heavily logged in some areas, overgrown in others, both wildlife and vegetation were dwindling when Plum Creek Lumber put the land up for sale in 1991. In 1992, Lee Poole and Joe Vujovich, former ranch hands in Ennis, MT, learned that the land was for sale.

Having spent 20 years hiking, hunting and exploring the area, the two joined forces with a third partner, Keith Brown, and silently acquired the prized parcel.

Immediately, the partners formed Moonlight Basin Ranch and assembled a team of forestry and water specialists, wildlife biologists and geologists to consult on best land management practices.

Conservation

17,000 acres of the original purchase are currently protected through conservation practices. The remaining 8,000 acres have been studied extensively in creating the master plan for development. Moonlight Basin's constraint-based approach to development protects cultural and natural resources present prior to development.
