Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides

NEW this winter season Cedar Mountain Corrals is offering a horse drawn sleigh rides through Moonlight Basin’s untouched terrain. Gather friends and family and come enjoy a scenic ride through untracked snow filled hills. Upon arriving at Ulrey’s Lake there will be warm drinks, snacks, children activities plus a bonfire.

Rides start at 1:00pm and 3:30pm Friday and Saturday. Guests will enjoy live country music, s’mores, hot cocoa, coffee and campfire.

Dog Sledding

Cross Country Skiing

Experience the beauty of Montana’s finest terrain by gliding through some of the most breathtaking trails in North America. Lone Mountain Ranch, only 10 miles away, is home to the number one Nordic trail system in North America. West Yellowstone also offersmany miles of cross country skiing and access intoYellowstone National Park.

Snowmobiling

Appreciate winter thrills and stunning landscapes, including trails through Yellowstone National Park, from the unique perspective of one of these incredible machines.

Snowcoach Tours

Yellowstone springs to life as you sit back and relax in the unique vehicle known as a snowcoach. Take your pick of three touring options – each is complete with an expert guide, who will provide a narrated overview of the geology, wildlife, history, and current issues of the world’s first national park.
 
Time:Tours depart daily at 8:00 a.m. and return at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Tours:
  • The North Tour takes you through the Yellowstone Canyon to see beautiful waterfalls and abundant wildlife.
  • The South Tour takes you to the famous Old Faithful Geyser and Yellowstone Lake to see many of the park’s awe-inspiring geothermal features.
  • The Mammoth Hot Springs Tour takes you to the stunning geologic formations throughout the park. Lunch is included with this tour.

Snowshoeing

As easy as walking, snowshoeing lets you experience what most people will never see. Get back to nature one step at a time with nothing but the wildlife, scenery, and snow blowing off the branches on Moonlight Basin’s own designated snowshoe trails. There is two main snowshoeing trails that we recommend for our guests. The Ulerys Lake Trail runs 2.5 miles between the Moonlight Lodge and Madison Village Base Area, looping around Lower Ulreys Lake. In addition, The Lee’s Pool trail is a 3 mile loop that winds through natural beauty starting at the Madison Village Base Area and down to the scenic Lee’s Pool.

Both trails are a must experience for those looking for a peaceful alternative to skiing. Our trails are open from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 7 days a week during winter season. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced loops are available.

Snowshoe rentals, trail passes and trail maps are available through the Season Pass office at the Madison Village Base Area or at the Skier Services area at the Moonlight Lodge.

Ice Skating

Give in to nostalgia and discover the exhilaration of skating on Moonlight Lodge’s outdoor mini ice skating rink. Whether you’re a spectator or taking a break from skating, warm up around the fire or under our special heat lamps on the patio adjacent to the rink. Rentals are available for $5 from 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily from skier services in the Willow Boutique at the Moonlight Lodge.
